Mr. Haudenschild founded CliniComp, Intl. in 1983 to develop fully automated and adaptable computer-based systems for clinical workflow enhancements beginning with the most demanding critical care environments. From inception, CliniComp's founding principles of performance, reliability and adaptability provided the essential platform for launching the largest, most robust and reliable turnkey systems worldwide. As a result, CliniComp customers have enjoyed decades of continuous systems operation throughout the hospital enterprise.
Today, Mr. Haudenschild continues to be the impetus in pioneering product development and designing innovative technology solutions that significantly improve clinical workflow and patient outcomes. In addition, these solutions will provide clinicians with tools to quantify and validate effectiveness. Mr. Haudenschild's strategic initiatives play a key role in the company's technological advancements in the ever expanding critical care environment and automation in hospitals.
Mr. Haudenschild holds a bachelor's in physics from San Diego State University and a master's in physics from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Alan Portela
President
Mr. Portela has more than 20 years of leadership experience in IT as a strategic advisor for both prestigious medical centers and top-tier healthcare companies. An accomplished healthcare IT strategist and visionary, Mr. Portela helped define a virtual intensive care model based on the collection and presentation of real-time clinical data to caregivers, effectively reducing mortality rates caused by medical personnel shortages.
In October 2009, Mr. Portela was promoted from chief operating officer to president. As president, he is responsible for defining and managing the company’s operating plan and ensuring the effective and timely allocation of all company resources to support client needs and achieve overall business goals.
During his previous tenure as senior vice president of client relations, Mr. Portela oversaw sales and marketing as well as account management/implementation and special projects. He was responsible for the support of approximately 35 hospital-wide installations totaling 10,000 beds and was also instrumental in the U.S. Department of Defense’s selection of CliniComp as the sole provider of inpatient clinical modules for military hospitals.
Before returning to CliniComp, Mr. Portela was the executive vice president of client services at Global Care Quest in Aliso Viejo, Calif., and vice president of strategic initiatives at Patient Care Technology Systems in Mission Viejo, Calif.
Mr. Portela lectures on healthcare IT for a healthcare executives MBA at the University of California, Irvine’s Paul Merage School of Business. He also serves on the advisory boards of several healthcare technology companies.
Mr. Portela earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the Universidad Argentina de la Empresa (UADE) in Buenos Aires.
Jim Kesaris
Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Kesaris joined CliniComp, Intl. in 2010 as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Kesaris brings over 20 years of high level, multi-industry financial and strategic leadership, and expertise. In these positions, he will oversee CliniComp’s financial, operating, marketing and sales functions. Mr. Kesaris has held senior management positions in the financial services, marketing and distribution of branded consumer products, aerospace manufacturing, and professional sports and entertainment industries. Most recently, Mr. Kesaris was a business development and investor relations associate with SCMS Capital LLC, which offers investment banking and advisory services. Previously, he held the positions of senior vice president and CFO at USE Credit Union, executive vice president of operations at Peninsula Holdings Group, and CFO at Tatum Partners.
Mr. Kesaris earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Illinois. He earned his CPA license during his tenure with Arthur Young & Co. in Chicago.
Jiao Fan,
Ph.D.
Vice President, Engineering
Dr. Fan has almost twenty years of experience in computer software and hardware design and development. He assumed his current position after almost ten years as CliniComp’s principal software engineer and director of engineering. In this capacity, he directed and supervised the design, implementation, documentation, testing, system installation, and maintenance in many different software projects and products. He has extensive experience in healthcare information systems such as clinical data repositories, data warehousing, master patient index and clinical information systems.
Before joining CliniComp, Dr. Fan worked at the University of California as a research fellow and many years as a senior electronic and computer engineer at Ford Motor Company.
Dr. Fan received a B.S. degree in computer science, M.S. degrees in computer engineering and mathematics from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University ofCalifornia, San Diego.
Stephen Armstrong
Vice President, Marketing
Mr. Armstrong brings 25 years of international consumer and business marketing experience to CliniComp, Intl. with the last 8 years in health care information systems. As vice president of marketing, Mr. Armstrong is responsible for branding and strategic marketing communications leading CliniComp’s marketing team and external agencies.
Prior to joining CliniComp, Mr. Armstrong was a founding executive of Patient Care Technology Systems, a pioneering developer of real-time location enabled workflow solutions, where he led marketing. Prior positions included senior marketing roles at Entertainment Systems Technology, Pepsico/Tricon Global Restaurants (Yum! Brands), and The Pillsbury Company.
Mr. Armstrong is a graduate of the Honors Business Administration program at the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario and has completed leadership courses at Pepsico and The Center for Creative Leadership. He is a member of the American Marketing Association and HIMSS.
